Ed Finkler (aka funkatron) has a solid recap of the recent HP webOS event from a developer’s perspective.
When webOS was announced a few years ago, I was impressed and excited. It seemed like the UI was more intelligent than anything from Microsoft or Google, and the promotion of the web stack as a first-class development platform meant existing web developers could easily develop applications with full access to device APIs. Unfortunately, the last few years have been stagnant for webOS, but the potential remains present. I hope HP puts its purchase to good use soon. The web as a whole will benefit from its innovation.
