I think we're both coming from the same direction, we're just using different words. We're imaging a way to make a tablet more of a stationary computer, and that probably isn't what most people will use it as. It will be something they take to a meeting and take notes or take it in their car for directions.

We're talking about ways to make it more of a desk computer and that's where I spend most of my time. A laptop is perfect for that. A balance of computing power, portability, and ease of input.

I'm still really excited to see how Apple will change the game yet again.

@Kevin,

I see where you're coming from on the docking station, but I'd put my money on Bluetooth being the glue for something like that rather than connectors/wires. I suspect Apple will also lean on 3rd parties to pick up the slack on that as they have for the iPod. Imagine an mStand (built for a tablet), Magic Mouse, and a Bluetooth keyboard. The only question in that setup is power—if only the tablet could be inductive.

I have a hard time imagining Apple will include a USB / Firewire port, but that would certainly be a boon to those looking to use this as a bit more of a work horse. Even one port would enable you to plug in your own USB hub. Come to think of it, I would be willing to bet that it will include an SD reader. Makes perfect sense in the scenario I outlined.

I would be most excited (and willing to part with my money) if the tablet has some kind of docking station, like Tim Van Damme described: http://maxvoltar.com/archive/dreaming-of-an-apple-tablet

I find my laptop easy enough to carry around so I don't know how much tablet-using I'd be doing regardless. I'll wait to see what Apple has up their sleeves before I make any further judgements though.
