Devan, I don't know if you're right about the target audience. This is a consumer device, aimed right at the heart of America, i.e. people who maybe own an iPod and that's it. This is not for geeks. It's the world's greatest coffee table computer. The device that dad reads the news on as he rides commuter rail from the suburbs. The device mom checks her email on. The device you pass around in the living room to view vacation photos. Apple has completely lowered all barriers to entry with this one. No software to install, no contract to sign, no peripherals to buy. It's beautiful, idiot-proof, and cheap. Apple's always been the first two, but they've never been the latter.

Do any of us have a clear use for it, especially with the Apple devices we already own? Probably not. But Apple's not trying to sell this to us. They already know we're gonna buy one. And by "we," I mean, "everyone but you."

Devan,

I'm defining set here per Steve Jobs' speech yesterday. It's true Apple makes other computing products I don't own.

I feel sorta lame calling foul on what seems meant mostly as a closing rhetorical flourish, but just in case it wasn't:

Does this complete the MBP / iPhone set? I don't think so. I don't even think it really completes the iMac / iPhone set; that's for the MacBook Air.

If anything, I think this is for PC users who have iPhones and want to dip a second toe in the Apple lifestyle.
